One month since we got the call. So where are we now? Tom and Tracy are still in their housing near the hospital to finish testing and rehab this month. Tom had an esophageal manometry to use a PH probe, evaluating acid reflux and the post surgical site internally. Tom said “this is worse than the surgery”, which we all laughed and know that his memory loss would make that statement true for him. Tom is currently suffering from short term memory loss and is watching videos post surgery several times and each time has been like the first, and no memory of the first week post operation.
Stomach and side pain prompted imaging to evaluate his gall bladder. As some symptoms improve we are addressing any new symptoms. He is growing stronger each day. Pain is improving greatly and he has had a couple days without pain medication.
Ohio State University held an event this week to honor all the transplant recipients. Tom was invited to attend and was also able to place a pinwheel in the lawn to represent his transplant. Thousands of pinwheels were placed in the lawn and was a beautiful representation of those impacted by transplant. Tom’s tribe has been a huge blessing and has made their journey as easy as possible. Continue prayers for a smooth recovery and improvements in his memory.
