Day 7- The Roller Coaster

Tom on Day 5 had tube #6 of 7 removed and following began his difficulty breathing. Due to the breathing issue the team was able to evaluate and determine there was oxygen between the new lung and the chest cavity(left), which was not allowing proper inflation of the lung. The remaining tube was turned on to suction oxygen out from the opposing lung to help clear the excess air out. Day 6 began on very little sleep due to his fear of difficulty breathing through the night. As the day went on, he improved and was verified by several chest x-rays.

Day 7 Tom continued to improve and is cautiously optimistic. He had 4 walks today around the hospital. Tom used supplemental oxygen some day 5 and most of day 6. Today Tom is missing his oxygen nasal canula, although his oxygen stats look good. Testing was performed to check for blood clots in extremities by dopler, CAT scan to check the sternum where he was noticing popping, and more chest x-rays. All testing results have been good so far. Incision site is healing good and the numbing in that area is wearing off now, so a new pain to manage.

Blessed to have made it to 1 whole week post double lung transplant. We will celebrate every little victory and praise god for his miracles.
